Girls Worth the World is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for young women of African descent to experience Africa through travel adventures. Our aim is to change the negative narrative of Africa by exposing young travelers to rich history, breathtaking landscapes, exquisite cuisine, and incredible people of Africa while learning the history of black people from an African perspective. We also strive to help young African-American women expand their horizons as they discover new ways to envision their own future impact when they return to U.S. soil.
We founded the nonprofit organization Girls Worth The World to provide opportunities for young women of African descent to experience Africa. On an annual basis, we select two young women for travel to an African country with both of the organization’s founders. All program costs are covered, including flights, ground transportation, lodging/hotel, meals, activities, and passports.
We were barely older than girls when we met our freshmen year at a historically black college (HBCU). Along our journeys into adulthood, we remained friends and traveled to many countries together. Visiting the continent of Africa as young women taught us so much about African history -- things we were never taught in school.
One of us is now a traveling nurse working with terminally ill children. The other is a businesswoman and mom. One day we came up with an idea during a conversation about social and economic injustice: What if we could reach young Black women in a creative and fun way by taking them with us on our travel adventures?
Anyone who has traveled beyond the boundaries of their homeland knows how eye opening the experience of international travel can be. Traveling to the land of your ancestral roots can be even more mind expanding and moving.
We are passionate about inspiring youth through the power of travel. We love the rich, living history of Africa, from the most remote villages to the continent's vibrant metropolitan centers and incredible coastal beaches. Some of our favorite memories are from our trips to Africa and we are eager to share that love and laughter with participants of the Girls Worth the World program as they learn the history of Black people from an African perspective.
The experiences we share and memories we make will be unmatched as each participant finds something to love about Africa. Join us!
